Sara Kyle has dedicated her professional life to public service. She began her career as a public school teacher in Tennessee before becoming a legislative aide to Sen. Anna Belle Clement O’Brien. During her tenure working in the state senate she attended law school at night. After graduating and clerking for the Tennessee Attorney General’s office, she entered into private law practice.

She served as a judge in Memphis City Court before being elected statewide to the Public Service Commission in 1994, becoming the second woman elected to statewide office in Tennessee. In 1996, she
was appointed to the Tennessee Regulatory Authority (TRA), which succeeded the Public Service Commission as the utility regulatory for Tennessee’s consumers. She retired from the TRA in 2013.

In 2014, she was elected to represent the 30th District in the Tennessee State Senate, which includes Frayser, Raleigh, North Memphis, Berclair, and parts of Midtown, a position that she currently holds.

Sara is married and the mother of four, and currently resides in Memphis.
